Twitter has announced two major new features that are coming soon that will allow users to charge their followers to gain access to additional content and the possibility to form and join groups with particular interests. These are two of the more significant improvements to Twitter over the past few months. However, they can be easily integrated into existing designs that have proven popular and effective on other social networks.

What Are Twitter Super Follows?

The payment feature, dubbed Super Follows, will permit Twitter users to charge their followers and allow them access to additional content. This could include bonus tweets as well as access to a group forum, an email subscription or a badge to show your appreciation.

Creators can set their monthly fee at $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 for access to the content, which gives them the chance to earn money through Twitter.

This new function is essentially Twitter Super Follows and Spaces mixed, which is what the animated video above suggests.

Super Followers can now enjoy exclusive access to exclusive subscriber-only Tweets. However, more services are planned to be offered shortly, such as Super Follower-only Spaces, newsletters, various subscription tiers, and the ability to join anonymously.

Because Super Follows was launched in September, it would seem that the interest so far is minimal, but in the same way, few people have been able to use the feature yet.

Who Can Access Twitter Super Follows?

Super Follows is very new. However, here’s what we’ve found about it so far.

The minimum requirements for creators that are looking to begin the process of creating a subscription should:

  • You must be 18 or older
  • Make sure you are in the US
  • With more than 10K followers
  • Have tweeted 25 times over the last 30 days.

Twitter also unveiled a new feature named Communities that appears to be an update of something similar to Facebook Groups. Users can join and create groups based on specific interests, for example, plants or cats, Twitter suggests — which will allow them to view more tweets that are focused on these topics. Groups have been a massive hit for Facebook (and they’re a major moderate issue as well). They could prove to be an especially useful tool for Twitter users because the service’s flexibility can make it difficult for novice users to start using the platform.

Super Follows is currently in the process of testing with selected creators from the US on iOS. Users worldwide using iOS and Android will be invited to join and even request to talk in these Super Follows-only Spaces. Those on the internet will be able to join and listen but not participate during the broadcasts.
