Bluesky, a non-profit project set up by Twitter, was introduced in 2019 and is owned entirely by the team, without any controlling stake held by Twitter. The app is said to be a more user-friendly and organized version of Twitter. It is currently only available to a selected few users, but will be released to the public soon.

The app is being developed by Twitter, and it is designed to be a more private and secure alternative to other social media platforms.

“As we beta test it, we will continue to refine the protocol specifications & share details about how it works. When it’s ready, we’ll move into open beta,” Dorsey, 45, added.

According to the company, BlueSky will allow users to share photos, videos, and messages with each other without having to worry about their data being accessed by third-party advertisers or hackers. The app will also feature end-to-end encryption, which means that only the sender and receiver of a message will be able to read it.

Twitter has not announced when BlueSky will be released to the public, but it is expected to launch sometime in late 2022.

Rumoured features of BlueSky

-A news feed that shows updates from friends and family
-The ability to post updates and photos
-A messaging feature that allows users to send private messages to each other
-A way to search for other users by name or username
-A way to view trending topics

Reportedly, BlueSky will allow users to create “circles” of friends and followers. This will give users greater control over who sees their content. Additionally, BlueSky will have a “Meet Up” feature that will help users connect with each other in real life.

The new service will be decentralized

According to Bluesky, the new app will have intense security protocols, plus it will use an Authenticated Transfer Protocol, explaining that it will be a social network that will be managed by various sites, rather than using a single location to have its servers.

“We call the app we’re building Bluesky because it will be a portal to the world of possibilities over the AT Protocol.” Dorsey shared that Bluesky wants to be “a competitor to any company that tries to own the underlying fundamentals for social media or the data of the people who use it.”
